[Church of St. Nicholas]—Cathedral of St. Peter

Peremyshl Poland

[Ukrainian Catholic (Byzantine)]

When Roman Catholicism came to Peremyshl, the Ukrainian Catholic cathedral, St. John the Baptist, was confiscated. It was dismantled in 1460 and the materials used to build the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Peter (the stones were taken to the river to be 'cleansed from the Eastern schism'). This cathedral was built on the site of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Nicholas. The St. Nicholas foundation stones may still be seen in St. Peter's crypt.
