Before the 1917 Revolution, St. Nicholas Day, December 19th, was celebrated as the Day of Polotsk. The church, built in 1738, was first St. Stephen's Church. After transfer to the Orthodox, it was known as St Nicholas Cathedral. It was blown up in 1964. Residents are now trying to have the cathedral restored.
