Post World War II Serbian immigrants began arriving in Brisbane in 1948. The Church-School Community convened in 1953 and was fully registered in 1955. A multipurpose hall for services and other activities was blessed in 1959. Schism in the Serbian Orthodox Church abroad also divided the church in Brisbane. The continuing church held services in Russian and Greek Orthodox halls and an old Methodist church that was eventually purchased and renovated. The schism ended in 1992; the two Brisbane St. Nicholas churches continue in the parallel dioceses. Construction of the new church on Ross Street began in 2003.
