The church was rebuilt in 1804, following destruction of a medieval church in the early 1800s when troops took the roof tiles. After three roofless years, it was renovated and painted in 1804. A second layer of frescoes were done in 1868. The nave and part of the porch were painted in 1879. The church and town celebrate the feast of St Nicholas with a fair. People come from other villages and lunch is organized in hosts' homes for relatives and also provided at the church. In 2014 the church celebrated the 210th anniversary of its restoration, an archeological and church museum building was opened in the premises with an icon gallery.
