The church was built from 1913-1915, marking the 30o0oth anniversary of the House of Romanov. The building was funded by the Bryansk Metallugical Plant, giving the church its popular name. Closed as a church in 1929, it was declared an architectural monument, though used as a coal warehouse, a sports school and a Pioneer Palace. In 1985 it was transformed into the House of Organ and Chamber Music, with the German Sauer organ installed. Since 2013 the religious community was restored, with services held in the crypt. A rocket attack in the Russian invasion, 2022, damaged the exterior and windows. Shelling damaged the building in 2026, destroying most of the stained glass and damaging the organ..
