[Kloster Arnstein de Nikolaus en Maria]—Congregation of the Sacred Hearts

Obernhof Germany

Roman Catholic

The Arnstein Castle on the Lahn was built in the latter half of the eleventh century; in 1139 Ludwig III, the last Count of Arnstein, transformed the castle into the Premonstratensian monastery as he had no heirs. The monastery church was completed in 1360. The monastery was disolved in 1803 and in 1919 the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary established their first German monastery here. The Superior, Pater Alfons Spix, died at Dachau in 1942 because he allowed Polish forced laborers to worship and gave them breakfast.
