Kosciol Sw. Mikolaja

Wroclaw Poland

[Roman Catholic]

A chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas, patron saint of fishermen, was on the site in 1175. It burned in the Tartar inivasion of 1241 and a Gothic church was built. It was burned by Prussians in 1806 when the whole area was destroyed. Following total collapse the church was reconstructed in 1872 to 1882. The church was completely destroyed in 1945; all the windows were blown out, the roof broke through the ceiling. Forty women cleaned up the debris, the altar moved to the choir and Mass held in the open air.
