St. Nicholas Church

Likhachev, Moscow Oblast Russia

[Russian Orthodox]

The church was established in the 18th century, and the last building constructed in the 1880s. The village always had a reputation for being inhabited by evil spirits and the first wooden church was apparently built to cleanse the place. The brick church was built in 1888 and served five villages. The church was probably closed in 1936-37 and partially demolished. After that time the village completely disappeared from the face of the earth, leaving not even traces of house foundations among the tall grass. All that remains is the bell tower and part of the western wall. Pagubino is the nearest village.
