Tverskoy, Moscow City (Central) Russia
Russian Orthodox
The church was built in 1561 and was known as the Church of St. Nicholas "Red Bells" or "Fine Bells" after a bell tower was built in the early 18th century with especially fine sounding bells from Western Europe. A fire in 1626 completely burned the church which was then rebuilt. It was demolished in 1858 and a new church built. The name was kept, but only one of the bells remained. The church was closed in 1927 and by 1990 had fallen into decay with rusted dome and cracks in the walls. It was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1991 and reconsecrated in 1996. When the church was closed the bell was put in the Kolomna museum village. The church is on Nikolsky Pereulok.
