The parish was formed in 1982. Founding priest William Hitpas says about Saint Nicholas, If you can get past the Santa Claus stuff, he cared very deeply about those in need. That's something I've stressed since this parish was founded, a commitment to helping the poor. In 2007 in honor of Father Hitpas 40th ordination anniversary the parish built a home for a poor family in East St. Louis. Three days later the 25th anniversary of the church was celebrated.
