Beličica North Macedonia
Macedonian Orthodox
This St. Nicholas church is called the Roman Church because it is thought to have been built in the Roman era, though an inscription above the door is for 1885. The church has been renovated and the iconostas, crosses, liturgy books , icons, furniture and other objects from the now flooded Mavrovo church were transferred to it. The village itself was destroyed in a massacre during World War II. The church, nearly hidden in the forest, is noted for its rich fresco painting and many icons. During a spate of church robberies in 2012 and 2013 24 icons and money was stolen.
