Nikolaikirche was the place of prayers for peace in the time leading up to the elections which ended Communist rule in 1990. It is an amazing story of the Gospel's power to transform through the strength of candles and prayer. More and more people came and the prayers led to the outdoor peaceful protests that spread throughout the country and are believed to have led to the fall of the regime. The prayers for peace began in 1982 and continue on Mondays to this day.
