Chiesa di San Niccolò

Villafranca in Lunigiana, Tuscany Italy

[Roman Catholic]

The ruins of the church are adjacent to the ruins of Castle Malnido. The church, dating from at least 1285, primarily assisted pilgrims on the Via Francigena, though it was the parish seat until around 1650. The church declined after Villafranca was bypassed by the railroad in the late 1800s. World War II bombing further damaged it and the building was demolished in 1968. The bell tower is almost all that remains.
