It is said that an "old man" stopped an Allied aviator from dropping bombs as planned on the forest and the area including Polvica - Chiaiano. The injured aviator asked the hospital nuns who was the patron saint of that zone. As there were many churches, each with its own patron saint, they gave him images showing the saints. When he saw San Nicola di Bari, he exclaimed: It is he, the old man, who stopped my hand in the act of disengaging the bombs when I flew over this area and this wood. It is he who appeared in the cockpit of my plane and exclaimed: not here!" After the pilot recovered, he visited all the churches and recognized "the old man" in the church of St. Nicholas.
