Trentinara, Campania Italy
[Roman Catholic]
The church, dating from the 11th century, has been deconsecrated and is now used as an art gallery & workshop in the historic town center. The church was desecrated in the 1600s when the bishop persecuted Basilian monks. It's believed that the residents "stole" the St. Nicholas statue and took it to the church in Monte Cicerale where it is still venerated. Monte Cicerale was an area dominated by the Greek Orthodox rite at the time.
