Church of St. Nicholas Jordan
Jordanian Convent

Kyiv Ukraine

Ukrainian Orthodox

The stone church was built as part of the monastery in 1866, replacing the wooden church that had stood for three centuries. An ancient legend told of a pilgrim from Kyiv who found the vessel he put in the River Jordan here, hence the name. The masonry church replaced an earlier wooden one. Legend tells of the Polovtsian in this St. Nicholas story contributing to building the church. The stone church was destroyed by Bolsheviks in 1935. The parish and monastery have been revived.
