St. Nicholas Church

Barnaul, Altai Krai Russia

Russian Orthodox

The church was built by the standard plan for military churches; it was consecrated in 1906. The plan was approved in 1901 and at least 60 were built by 1917. The regimental church was next to the Barnaul barracks. Closed in 1930, the dome was destroyed and the building used as a club and later a school for military pilots. Returned to Orthodox faithful in 1991, the church has been restored with a new iconostasis and tower.
