Russian Orthodox
[Old Believers/Common Faith]
The church was built in 1775 for Popovtsy Old Believers (Edinoverie) in the Rogozhsky cemetery. The Popovtsy movement accepts priests and church hierarchy. In 1854 it was consecrated as a church of Common Faith, a mid-point between Old Believers and the Russian Orthodox Church. It was modified in the 1860s, adding a bell tower and two side chapels. The high altar is from 1905. During the 1930s one side chapel was used by Old Believers of Beglopopovtsy, who brought in Russian Orthodox priests who had escaped the tsar's authority. The main church continued as Common Faith until the 1960s when it was taken over by the Moscow Patriarchate. Common Faith services ended in 1989 and the Old Believers moved to another location in 1993.
