Church Website

This country church was built with materials that were often better than what the people had in their own homes. In 1917 the interior was painted with traditional Byzantine rite iconography. Priests from the Ukrainian Catholic monastery at Mundare served the church during the 1920s. Originally in Buchach, since 1971 the church is in the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village near Edmonton.

Many Ukrainian-Canadian churches have separate bell towers, as do Ukrainian churches. This can be traced back to watchtowers which were a defensive element of most Ukrainian towns and villages.
