Tagansky, Moscow City (Central) Russia
Bulgarian Orthodox
A wooden church was built in 1632, replaced by stone in 1712. It was one of the last stone churches built for many years as Peter the Great issued an edict restricting stone use to St Petersburg. Renovations around 1800 trimmed the white stone window frames, restored patterned detail and regilded the domes. The church was closed in the 1920s and used as a warehouse. All interior and some exterior decoration was removed. A research institute occupied the premises in the 1980s. The church was returned to the Bulgarian patriarchy in 1990.
