Sainte Anastasie, Occitanie France
[Roman Catholic]
The Augustinian Saint-Nicolas Priory was established by 1156. The monks built the bridge across the Gardon from 1245-60, as the fords were impassable in winter. The bridge linked cities Nimes and Uzès; the route was especially important for transport by the Knights of the Templars. The monks, with specialist engineers, geologists and architects, also built the Bridge of Avignon, Bompas and later Pont-Saint Esprit.
