The church was founded in 1789 and the first wooden building finished in 1793. The stone church was consecrated in 1828. The congregation was primarily Estonian, with some Finns and Germans. The church was closed in 1938 and badly damaged during the war years. Given to a construction company in 1950, it was restored and used as a children's sports school from 1960 until 1994. It was reconsecrated as a Lutheran church in 1995. The building is listed as a federal monument.
