Kaliningrad / Königsberg, Kaliningrad Oblast Russia
[Catholic/Lutheran/Orthodox]
The church dates from the mid-13th century; the first building was wood and was the oldest church in the old city of Königsberg. Over the years medieval parts were retained in the extensive building work and renovation. The church was used by Polish and Lithuanian Protestant refugees, especially during the 16th through 18th centuries and was known as the Polish Church. During the Seven Years' War it served from 1760-62 as the Russian Orthodox Church. It was then again Protestant until 1945. The roof collapsed from air raid reverberation in 1944 and artillery caused it to burn in 1945. The tower was later removed when the street was widened and all the ruins removed during the 1950s. The bell, originally from the Hamburg cemetery, is now in Verden Cathedral.
