The monastery was founded around 1350. The main church, built in 1680, was St. Nicholas, the highest, with five domes and three apses. The monastery was closed in 1923 and the cathedral and bell tower blown up. The lands were used for cattle. The new Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas was built from 1999-2003 by architect Vyacheslav Izhikov who restored and rebuilt numerous churches and other buildings, especially in Pereslavl.
