The church was built in 1995 by Horst Wrobel on his private estate after seeing the reconstructed Transfiguration Church (original from 1756) at the architectural museum in Suzdal. The church is a copy of the Transfigurationo Church. It was presented as a symbolic, not legal, gift to Patriarch Alexey II in 1995. The church was to be a bridge between German and Russian peoples. It stands in a museum of mills and access is limited to those paying for museum admission. There is a parish community, but most worship is held in rented premises elsewhere. The owner has offered it for sale.
