The original St. NIcholas church was built in the 1700s and a stone bell tower constructed in 1873. The upper level was dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord. A school was opened in 1858 for peasant children. The church was closed in 1931 and used as a country club. The building suffered war damage and after the war was used as a warehouse. Lightning struck in 1961 and it burned, leaving a shell. In 1992-93 the parish community formed and adapted the adjacent parochial school into a church.
