Oratorio di San Nicola

Baraggiola (Borgomanero), Piedmont Italy

[Roman Catholic]

The oratory dates from the late 900s, the first church in Borgomanero territory. Augustinian hermits used it until the end of the 12th century; traces of their refectory still remain. The adjacent ancient Romanesque tower, thought to be from the same time, was built for defensive purposes. The church is about 3 kilometers from Borgomanero along the road to Arona. It is one of the oldest churches in Italy dedicated to St. Nicholas. After the two structures became public property in 2011, they were renovated.
