The church was founded in 1689 though it was destroyed during the Napoleonic Wars. The present church was built from 1883-85. It remained open during World War I, in the interwar period, and during World War II. It was abandoned in 1947 when the Orthodox Ukrainians were deported. It was used for as a dairy warehouse and a public toilet. The church was gradually devastated until 1957. It was then restored to the Orthodox parish and some renovation was carried out. Major renovations was done in the 1980s and after 2000. It is a listed building since 1979.
