Sankt-Nikolaus-Kirche

Nedlitz Germany

Evangelical Lutheran

The Romanesque church was originally built during the 12th century. The tower is from the late 1100s-early 1200s. The tower is wider than the nave and the walls are 1.7 meters thick. The bell chamber openings were added later. The church was destroyed in 1642 and rebuilt beginning in 1660. The church and tower were closed due to disrepair in 1968. Work was undertaken in the 1990s and the church was reopened for worship in 1996. There are seven mummies from the 17th century—preserved because of the conditions in the dry crypt.
