Chiesa di San Niccolao

Pistoia, Tuscany Italy

[Roman Catholic]

The church, originally known as Chiesa di Santa Maria in Torre, became San Niccolao when nuns were brought from another convent. The church had a miraculous painting of St. John the Baptist, thought to be particularly efficacious in ending family rivalries. When nuns were brought from the monastery of San Michele in 1678, the church became known as San Michele e Niccolao. The convent closed in 1784 and became the home of the Accademia degli Armonici (Academy of Harmonics).
