St. Nicholas Lighthouse Chapel

The first lighthouse chapel in Russia floats at the confluence of the Irtysh and Ob rivers. It weighs 10 tons and is 8 meters high. The lighthouse beacon is at the top of the dome, under the cross. Eight large icons form an iconostasis under the dome. The icons are back lit at night. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill consecrated the chapel on September 19, 2013. There is no entrance into the interior and liturgy is not said at the chapel. It remains at the confluence during the navigation season and is towed to a safe place for the 5-6 months the river is frozen and without traffic.
