The church was originally a Carmelite monastery church. It was built as the Carmelite chapel in the 1260s. The church was completely refurbished, with the addition of the steeple, from 1898 to 1904. It is the oldest church in use in Bad Kreuznach, celebrating its 750th anniversary in 2016.
