A large area was set aside for a church in 1906, with 5312 square meters for a cemetery. The church was built in 1909-10. The cemetery has continued to develop and includes a memorial for victims of World War II. Cistercian monks named the Nikolassee (Nicholas Sea) in honor of St. Nicholas.
