The church dates from the 13th century and survived much turmoil before burning in 1811. The ruins were demolished. The new parish was established in 2004 and the new church building dedicated on St. Nicholas Day, December 6, 2011. The Archbishop of Bari and the Rector of the Basilica di San Nicola, Bari, Italy, took part in the dedication.
