Memorial Chapel of St. Nicholas—Nicolo-Ugreshky Monastery

Dzerzhinsky, Moscow Oblast Russia

Russian Orthodox

The chapel is behind the Holy Gates, the entrance to the large, extensive monastery. The monastery, founded in 1380, was dedicated to St Nicholas of Myra. It was built on the spot where Prince Dmitry Ivanovich saw a vision of St. Nicholas before his victory over the Tartars on the River Don. In 1920 it was partially destroyed and converted into a children's labor colony. Later it was used as a labor camp. The monastery reopened in 1991. The seminary was established in 1998 and is one of the largest in Russia.
