The church was founded in 1948 and has seven outlying chapels. The church is a sister parish of the Sacred Heart Church in Warsaw, Indiana, USA. From the prayer on the church patronal festival: " O Saint Nicolas, carer for the poor, travelers guardian, comforter of the afflicted, pray for us!"
