The first chapel was built in the 13th century on a field named for thistles (les chardons). In 1625 the belltower was rebuilt, and the whole of the church between 1656 and 1763. The façade is from 1934. The painter Charles Le Brun, a parishioner, designed the western portal of the transept. 16th century Flemish-school tableaux decorate the church. It is now part of the Parish of Saint Séverin Saint Nicolas. In 1977, Society of St. Pius X, Catholic traditionalists with no canonical status, expelled the abbot and still occupy the church.
