St. Nicholas Church & Monastery

Zadar Croatia

[Roman Catholic]

The church dates from the early Middle Ages, with the bell tower from the 1200s. There is evidence of pre-Romanesque capitals and furnishings. The Benedictine monastery was desecrated in the late 1700s. It was being converted into a 4-star hotel during 2015. The old monastery wall from the Middle Ages will be preserved. The complex was renovated by the European Fund for Regional Development for the use of the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar. The church hosts exhibits and space for seminars, lectures, concerts, and other cultural events.
