St. Petersburg
Vasilevsky Island, St. Petersburg City Russia
Russian Orthodox
The chapel was built from 1998 - 2003 to restore a chapel near the site of the Church of Christ the Savior in Gethsemane and St. Nicholas. That church, on the bank of the Neva, was consecrated in 1909 in memory of sailors who died in the Battle of Tsushima. The church was blown up in the spring of 1932. Mosaics and other artifacts from the original church have been found in the collection of the State Russian Museum.
