Paroisse Saint-Nicolas

Ugine, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes France

Russian Orthodox

Between 1923 and 1931 many Russian immigrants came to the area to work in the steel works. A simple wooden church was dedicated to Saint Nicholas in 1926. A school, library, school of music and dance, orchestra, and theatre were also established. After falling into ruin, the church was restored in 2001, thus helping to preserve the history of the Russian community.
