Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia Russia
Russian Orthodox
The holy well has long been known and revered at the Neglinka river mouth on the Bay of Lake Onega. A chapel was built here in the 1800s, honoring St. Nicholas, the patron and guardian of water. It was a place of pilgrimage with a large procession on May 9th. In 1884 the water was declared to have healing properties, with beneficial nutrients and minerals. The chapel was destroyed during the Soviet era.
