The society exists to support and strengthen Catholic faith within the Catholic community at Eton and to nurture the spiritual life and faith of Catholic students and their families. Land for the chapel was purchased in 1905. Following considerable obstacles from those not wanting Catholic presence at Eton, the chapel was dedicated in 1915. Boys were initially forbidden from attending Mass. After 1920 they were allowed to attend Mass and also Benediction in the evening. So many Catholic boys are now at Eton that Mass takes place in the Lower Chapel. The chapel is a strong parish community, supplied by the parish priest of St Augustine's in Datchet. It is a grade two listed building.
