Following destruction in the Dissolution, Franciscans reacquired the property and the church was rebuilt following Catholic emancipation. It is the only church in Dublin that has preserved two complete sets of communion rails. A Pieta dominates the interior which has a neoclassical Italian altar flanked by angels. The church served as diocesan Pro-Cathedral for about 100 years, from the 1690s until around 1790.
