Alassa, Limassol Cyprus
[Greek Orthodox]
A large dam creating the Kouris Resevoir was built in the 1988, flooding the village with water from three rivers: Kouris, Limnatis, and Kryos. The village of Alassa was relocated on higher ground. The old village St. Nicholas Church in the hills above Limassol is normally completely submerged by the Kouris Dam. The church is on the north side of the dam, is now covered with water in the winter, except for the tower. The church ruins are all that remains of the original village. It is 15 kilometers northwest of Limassol.
