Weißensee, Thüringen Germany
Roman Catholic
Small Romanesque church built about 1170, it was soon overshadowed by the new and bigger Ss Peter and Paul built in the marketplace of Weißensee. When the Reformation came in 1539 St. Nicolai lost parish status. Rarely used, in the 1800s it served as a barn and horse stable. After restoration, it was again dedicated in 1936 and served primarily as a cemetery chapel. Renovated again in 1985 it serves as a community center, hosting concerts, and is used by both Catholic and Protestant Christians.
