St Nicholas, the oldest church in Boston, was listed in the Domesday Book, though this building dates from the 12th century. The church is alongside the bank of of the Witham Haven and 16th century flooding caused the loss of the chancel. The nave was shortened to serve as a chancel. The whole church was restored, enlarged, re-roofed and refitted in the 1870s. A new chancel was built in 1935.
Before the 18th century Skirbeck was a small agricultural village. After 1800 Boston spread, absorbing Skirbeck. It became a part of the borough in 1932.
