The church was built in 1381, the choir enlarged in 1454, tower added in 1585, and the front and vestry added in 1095. John Calvin preached in this church in 1538. After completing his theological studies Albert Schweitzer served as curate and preached here beginning in 1899, before his medical studies and going to Africa. The church has been rented to a charismatic group, Renouveau Saint Nicholas, since 1975.
