Adare, Co. Limerick Republic of Ireland
Church of Ireland (Anglican)
This church was originally part of the Augustinian (Black Friars) Abbey founded in 1315. It became derelict after the monks were driven out in the mid 15th century reign of King Henry VIII. Repaired and renovated in 1808, the abbey's oldest building has served as an Anglican church ever since. The abbey cloisters and refectory remain and the refectory is used as a school and parish hall. The church was brought back into use in 1809 by the vestry of St Nicholas Church. The old church was then abandoned and is now in a graveyard in the grounds of the golf course.
