The Chapel of Saint Nicholas has been on the harbor since 1693. Immigrants from Aegina brought the icon to St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Tarpon Springs, Florida, in 1910. After fire damaged it in 1923, it was sent to Greece to be restored. The icon was never returned. In 2026 Tarpon Springs Mayor found the icon in the Chapel of Saint Nicholas on Aegina. It is hoped it will be returned to Tarpon Springs by Epiphany 2027.
