Built in 1845, this type of church is called a waterstaatskerk, one of many churches built under the Department of Waterways and Public Works between 1824 and 1868. Church councils received substantial state subsidies for new buildings, which were often similar in style. In 1868 the church became independent of the government and such subsidy ceased.
